Good Morning Mix: Grandtheft’s Triple J Mixup Exclusive
Last month Canada’s Grandtheft made his debut appearance Down Under, and to mark the occasion was invited to spin on Austraila’s Triple J radio show. Nina Las Vegas rarely misses the mark when inviting guests, and on top of selling out his AU/NZ stops, the Main Course and Mad Decent mainstay met and even exceeded the show’s high bar. Though from a percentage standpoint trap came in on top, the mix tips its hat to deep house while nodding to dubstep, techno, and even indie. Flirting with the deep with an intro that features RÜFÜS, Lido, Jack Beats and a snuck in Grandtheft exclusive, the mix starts to hint at something headier with Torro Torro’s impending “Ca$hville” and Autoerotique’s forthcoming “Bukem” collab with 4B. Then the hi-hats kick in, courtesy of the producer’s own unreleased bootleg of ScHoolboy Q’s “Studio,” and the weird is ripe for the getting. An unreleased Smalltown DJs edit of “My House,” new track from Electric Mantis and ID from Keys N Krates round out the mix’s exclusives, with Grandtheft’s collab with the trio ending the mix and leaving listeners with the reminder that whatever else happens, the Torontonian trap star will keep it 100.
