GTA calls for death to genres with free release ‘Cake’
On the brink of joining Skrillex and Flosstradamus on their respective fall North American tours, the GTA duo has much to celebrate with new single “Cake.” Splicing in the ever recognizable voice of Rick Ross, Van Toth and JWLS take their production to new heights with a track that feels minimal when compared with past works such as “Hard House” and “Bola.” Rather than jump to the festival-tuned releases that have saturated the electronic market yearly at the end of the summer, the duo works within the confines of an intricate hip-hop beat that, while conservative, certainly shows familiar aspects from GTA. As a pair of DJs that flirt with the delicate line between big room house and the more aggressive trap, “Cake” is only further indication that GTA plan to break beyond their genre and explore the intricacies of many forms of music.
