The Presets – No Fun (Remixes)
RÜFÜS, Lancelot and Eekoo aren’t exactly a likely trio for a remix EP, but neither is a track entitled “No Fun” a likely club cut. Modular Record’s latest output, however, defies the odds. Getting tastemakers from across the underground spectrum, the Aussie label gives its award-winning exports a remix package for the books. Alongside the coyly compelling original are remixes from their countrymen RÜFÜS, Anjunadeep darling Lancelot, and mau5strap regular Eekoo, along with edits from Irish techno talent Phil Kieran and UK newcomers Wax Wings. While the original skewed towards a vintage-washed deadpan indie dance, the mixes range from Wax Wings’ trap-tinged basement beats to Kierans tight tech almost-instrumentals to Lancelot’s sunrise house strings, with Eekoo adding a dangerous edge and RÜFÜS glossing the groove.
