Dancing Astronaut’s Soundtrack to Electric Zoo 2014

For the typical electronic music enthusiast, festivals revolve around the adventures of dazzling costumes, seeing your favorite artists for the first time and sharing magical experiences with thousands of like-minded individuals. However, music festivals are more than just an occasion for fans to congregate and honor the musical culture that they have helped create.  For the artist, annual celebrations such as Ultra Music Festival, EDC and Electric Zoo are platforms for showcasing to the world their innate talents as DJs and producers. It is during these special moments that DJs tend to test the waters by premiering new music. With countless acts to choose from over the weekend, there were ample opportunities to discover the latest trends in electronic dance music and to revisit those that still linger on today. These are the ten tracks that defined our Electric Zoo 2014 experience.

Clean Bandit - Rather Be (The Magician Remix)

Clean Bandit, anyone? Look no further, the best of synthpop and deep house was a staple through 2.5 days of Zoo thanks to the Magician’s impeccable remix.

Notable Plays: Ansolo

Elliphant feat. Skrillex - Only Getting Younger (Milo & Otis Remix)

Attendees were taken by surprise when Dyro delivered Milo & Otis’ remix of “Only Getting Younger” — a leap in styles from his traditional electro house leanings.

Notable Plays: Dyro

Gesaffelstein - Pursuit (Original Mix)

Hearing Gesaffelstein’s haunting productions in headphones is one thing but when the notoriously dark Frenchman dropped “Pursuit,” our bones rattled.

Notable Plays: Gesaffelstein

LOUDPVCK X GLADIATOR feat. Nipsey Hussle - Tony (Original Mix)

Things got animalistic when Carnage dropped this little number in his “Festival Trap” set.

Notable Plays: Carnage, Knife Party

Keys N Krates - All The Time (Tove Lo Flip)

Key N Krates gave a nod to Tove Lo’s incredible remix of “All The Time,” a rework that is quite possibly better than the original.

Notable Plays: Dyro

Kid Cudi - Pursuit of Happiness (Steve Aoki Remix)

Even at three years of age Steve Aoki’s remix of “Pursuit of Happiness” found a home at 2014’s Electric Zoo. Always a classic, this one has definitely secured its spot in the dance music hall of fame.

Notable Plays: MakJ, Hook N Sling, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

Alex Metric & Oliver - Hope (Original Mix)

Repetition has never sounded so good. Alex Metric made it easy for us to remember the lyrics to “Hope” and Heldens mashed it up with Zhu’s “Faded” for a truly memorable bootleg.

Notable Plays: Oliver Heldens

Dansson & Marlon Hoffstadt - Shake That (Tom Staar Remix)

Tom Staar’s remix is so fast paced that the lyrics are nearly incomprehensible, but NYC didn’t mind.

Notable Plays: Knife Party, Hook N Sling

Hardwell - Spaceman (Headhunterz Remix)

You almost forgot that this remix existed, didn’t you? Well, you can thank DVBBS for bringing it back. Hardstyle is alive and well.

Notable Plays: DVBBS

Moti & Kenneth G - Zeus

Moti and Kenneth G’s track is just about as godly as they come. Zeus, this one’s for you.

Notable Plays: MakJ, David Guetta, MOTi
