Kygo inks exclusive worldwide record deal with Sony Music and Ultra

Tropical house star and accomplished remixer Kygo has inked an exclusive record deal with Sony Music/Ultra. At just 23-years-old, the Norwegian upstart turned Coldplay-approved newcomer will don a run of original material towards the end of 2014, marking a notable investment from the label conglomerate in his popular sound and the market’s bow towards dance music’s softer remits.

Adam Granite, President, Northern & Eastern Europe and Africa, Sony Music International, said: “We are incredibly pleased to announce this signing.  Kygo is a very talented artist and we look forward to taking his career to the next level as we build upon his strong social following.  We are proud he chose to join the Sony Music family and we are very confident in his bright future across the globe.”

The announcement follows confirmation from Sony/Ultra’s Patrick Moxey that the former champions of the big room market would be focusing their efforts on a new generation of deeper and more melodically refined artists for the foreseeable future. As President of Electronic Dance Music at Sony Music Entertainment and overall President of Ultra Records, Moxey explained: “He (Kygo) represents the new breed of electronic sound.  Kygo’s assembled a a massive group of fans through the Internet and we’re excited for the next stage of his growth.”

With his first solo European and North American tours already reaching sell-out status, the announcement adds to a marker year for Kygo and the new breed heavyweight versing electronic dance music in a calmer future for its popular appeal.
