Skrillex calls Diplo ‘the most innovative producer in dance music’
Sway has been a music news mainstay since the early 1990’s with his work on MTV News, and now as a weekday morning show host on SirusXm’s Shade 45 show. So naturally, it was only a matter of time before the famed rap-bred radio personality linked up with Skrillex to pick the world-dominating producer’s brain a little bit and let fans in on some exciting news. With Skrillex performing an intimate private show in New York this past weekend for a lucky handful of SirusXM subscribers and fans, it was the perfect opportunity to sit down with OWSLA‘s head honcho.
Skrill takes a nostalgic moment to recall being in New York City when his Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP first reached the wire, and the rest is history. He connects with Sway’s hip-hop audience as the two discuss Skrillex’s out-of-the-box collaboration with Chance The Rapper, noting that the emerging Chicago-born lyricist was “one of the most compelling artists [he’s] ever seen.” The pair talk about Sonny’s humble beginnings on Fruity Loops before Skrillex was a name anyone had ever heard, the inception of the might OWSLA imprint, as well as the burgeoning studio culture emanating from LA’s east side.
Skrillex jumps into a bunch of exciting information about his upcoming (never-ending) fall tour schedule, where he will be performing alongside the likes of DJ Mustard, Big Gigantic, DJ Snake and others, as well as some goose bump-inducing news about the Jack U EP that is getting closer by the day. Discussing “crazy chemistry” with his Jack U counterpart Diplo, who Skrillex calls, “the most innovative producer in dance music,” along with addressing the Burning Man Robot Heart booing rumors, Skrillex delves into what we can expect from the most hyped side project of the year. Mentioning both versions of the long awaited AlunaGeorge collaboration, as well as working with Kiesza on “Hideaway,” and working with the K-Pop sensations CL and G Dragon, it would seem as though there is plenty of exciting new material nearly underway.
