In recent months, more and more forward-thinking electronic music artists have been incorporating live elements into their performances to deliver the live aspect that DJs lack behind the decks. UK nightclub percussionist Afishal has imported his “tribal rave” experience into nightclubs to disrupt the dance floor. Afishal built and customized his own massive percussion midi controller and props to cover some of dance music biggest names from Martin Garrix to Showtek to Knife Party. Surprisingly, Afishal reveals in his interview that people like to dance to DJs more than his show but that his “live bongo remixes” shake things up to provide a refreshing experience for listeners. He must be doing something right if he is performing at private parties for Beyonce and the royal family.
