Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne’s ‘Rather Be’ takes #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart
While more vocal dance records continue to break through to US radio, the demand and longevity of those records speak volumes about the American EDM audience’s developing tastes. After 37 weeks of popular acclaim, Clean Bandit‘s “Rather Be” featuring Jess Glynne has finally found the #1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart last week. Only Disclosure’s “Latch” featuring Sam Smith has had a longer climb to the top since the chart’s inception in January 2013. Though the adaptation to US radio airplay has been inexplicably sluggish, the eventual widespread rise of club-influenced singles such as “Rather Be” and “Latch” help form an optimistic outlook on the direction and future of mainstream music. “Rather Be” has also achieved prior Billboard success, topping Dance/Mix Show Airplay for a week, dominating Dance/Electronic Digital Songs for eight non-consecutive weeks and reaching the #10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
