Seven Lions fuses big room and psytrance with new track, ‘Lucy’
Seven Lions never fails to surprise us. When it comes to sound design, his prowess is practically unmatched. His newest track, however, has sparked a noticeably irate response from his fans.
Listening to the track, it’s clear to see what people are upset about: “Lucy” boasts considerable big room tendencies — a far cry from fan-favorites like “Days to Come” and his remix of “Cosmic Love.” But then again, the song is dripping with Seven Lions artifacts. From its deft vocal processing to its otherworldly sound synthesis, “Lucy” is still the Seven Lions we know and love.
Beyond that, the track even showcases a newer side to Montalvo: psytrance. We may have heard hints of it before, but not like this. The quickly arpeggiating bass, psychedelic samples and dark overtone turn “Lucy” into a potent crossover track that is destined to go over well in trance and big room sets alike.
