South Park’s spoof of music production will make any artist laugh at themself
This week in South Park making fun of everything in sight: Stan’s dad gets carried away after pretending to be Lorde as the episode lampoons modern music production. (Spoiler alter: Randy IS Lorde)
Randy comes up with his “best stuff” in the bathroom and records himself singing on his phone, imports it onto his computer, adds drum loops and backup instruments with a few clicks, hits auto-tune, and out comes a song.
South Park is doing what they do best: opening eyes to relevant topics in hilarious fashion. This week, they make it clear: music production is as easy as a few clicks of a button. While not exactly or always the case, anyone familiar with electronic music knows exactly who South Park is ripping on, and anyone from laptop producers to talented artists can take the joke in stride.
Laugh at or with yourselves before someone else becomes the cartoon’s subject of humiliation next week.
