Kevin Saunderson to use the sounds of Detroit in new music
One of the founding father’s of Detroit techno, Kevin Saunderson, is using the sounds of the Motor City as samples in his future work. The dance music pioneer recently visited the Ford Motor Company’s Wayne factory and recorded a collection of sounds for future dancefloor fuel.
Saunderson covered nearly every inch of the 5 million dollar-squar-foot factory as the assembly line popped and hissed with mechanical precision. During his stay he was inspired by the rhythm and frequency of the mechanized process, sounds that reminded him of the sounds he generates from oscillators when he produces.
“It’s hard to say what it will be used for,” he said in an interview with Detroit News. “You take samples, put it in the machine, and you never know what vibes it might bring. It could bring nothing, it could bring something amazing.”
