Premiere: SHADED – Gender Bender
SCI+TEC member SHADED just finished off a golden summer in Spain, and you can definitely hear the city’s cool urban appeal in his latest new single. He says the inspiration for the tune, titled ‘Gender Bender,’ came from a late summer spent bar hoping in Barcelona.
“I remember listening to lots of Prince on a juke box at one spot and got really inspired to try and ‘sing’, so I went home at like 5 am and recorded this vocal,” he says. “Before I knew it the sun was up and ‘Gender Bender’ was born.”
SHADED calls the tune “the manifestation of all the weird, odd and magical nights being in and out of a club.” It unravels like something you’d expect to hear playing in a movie during a montage of late nights out on the town. Imagine an electronically produced tech house-meets-techno version of an indie alternative song and you have ‘Gender Bender’. Sexy vocals and an upbeat, funky rhythm keep the party moving from start to finish.
The B-side of the EP features SHADED’s experimental ‘Funk Tone’, along with a remix package for ‘Gender Bender’ that includes a fierce and heavy edit by Carlo Lio, as well as a more groove-oriented take on the tune by Matador.
The EP is scheduled for release on November 13 via SCI+TEC.
