Nicolas Jaar and DJ Slugo release powerful, Chicago-inspired track, ‘Ghetto’
With the recent turmoil erupting in Ferguson, it was only a matter of time before a powerful piece of music surfaced to bring people together. Nicolas Jaar and DJ Slugo have teamed up to unleash soulful, Chicago-inspired track, “Ghetto.” Jaar concocts an eight-and-a-half-minute house production composed of a simple percussion sequence and an airy orchestra of synths. DJ Slugo’s spoken vocals reflect deeply on the hardships and adversity that occurs in the Chicago ghetto. He paints a not-so-pretty picture of life in the projects but manages to evoke a myriad of emotions simply through speech and music to relate listeners to the recent events in Ferguson. Along with the track, Slugo and Nicolas Jaar left a short letter for listeners:
In light of recent events, a new track by DJ Slugo. It was produced on a cold but sunny morning by Nico in NY, and sent that very morning to Thomas Kendricks (DJ Slugo) who laid down the vocal. We hope you enjoy it.
