The Prodigy’s Liam Howlett speaks out about new album

Back in July, The Prodigy forecasted a “violent-sounding album” for 2014. While the release has since been pushed back to next year, the work on the LP has finally been completed and the band’s six studio album is now slated for an early 2015 release. In an interview with the Standard, Liam Howlett reflected on the project: “We’re all going to be buzzing off this record, I think it’s our best ever.”

Liam’s enthusiasm for the new Prodigy album — the first since 2009 — is matched only by his disdain for the current EDM boom: “We’re fans of some people out there, but when you’ve got a scene built on DJs, that’s not healthy. We need more bands that make this kind of music.”

Luckily for Howlett, with The Chemical Brothers’ recent album announcement in mind, 2015 may be the year for a live electronic music resurgence. Speaking on the DJ-centric scene, Liam appeared confident in the group’s ability to inspire change: “We’ve always been like a big broom that’s just cleaning up – wiping the floor. They don’t bother us. It’s mainly DJs. If the dance scene is made up of DJs, that don’t bother us.”
