8 reasons to attend Sunburn as it returns to Goa for its 8th year

In 2007, Sunburn Goa became the first organized Internaional Festival in Goa, India. Sponsored by Smirnoff, the inaugural event took place on the 28th and 29th of December at Candolim Beach. Widely regarded as a success, the 2008 festival expanded to three days and brought Defected Records on board to curate. Just as dance music was beginning to explode in the US, Sunburn 2009 bloomed to 22,000 fans. That year also marked the moment that Sunburn officially became a 24-hour festival, establishing itself as THE destination for any EDM fans in Asia. Since then the festival has grown to over 10,000 sq meters with 7 stages, 120 artists and 200 hours of music. This year’s festival promises to be its largest yet, including a fully stacked lineup of the hottest main stage acts in the world.

The biggest dance music festival in Asia

Now in its 8th year, Sunburn reigns supreme as the largest dance music festival in Asia. This year an anticipated 100,000 people will descend on Vagator, Goa for 200 hours of main stage EDM paired with trance and psytrance at the birthplace of the movement.

The location, Vagator Beach

The location is as idyllic as one would imagine, tucked away at Vagator Beach in Goa.  India’s destination for European vacationers, the location will provide powerful sunsets to compliment the equally powerful electronic music.

Top notch stage design

There’s also plenty of unique production concepts this year, including the CubeZoid stage – a 3d projection mapped design that shapeshifts before your eyes.

A stage dedicated to psytrance

There’s nothing like seeing a genre in the place that gave birth to it. This year Sunburn has an entire stage dedicated to psytrance, with a lineup that promises to draw a crowd that will compete with those packed tightly at the main stage.

Two main stages

Upping the ante to two main stages, Sunburn broadens its musical horizons with two stages worth of top tier talent. Main stage heavy weights Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike headline the Main Stage 1 alongside Knife Party, Krewella, Klingande and more while Paul Oakenfold, Baauer and a Matthew Koma performance round out the eclectic selection on Main Stage number 2.

Jamie Jones, Sasha and Damian Lazarus on one stage

Goa may be known for psytrance, but Sunburn is no stranger to classic house tunes. Progressive house icon Sasha is joined by Hot Creations tastemaker Jamie Jones and Crosstown Rebels leader Damian Lazarus on the house and techno stage. Melodic maestro, Eelke Kleijn, makes his Sunburn debut as well.

Plenty of extracurriculars

Outside of its incredible lineup and production value, Sunburn steps up its extracurricular activities throwing Zorbing, and bungee jumping into the mix. For the less adventurous there are entire marketplaces for food, clothing, and souvenirs — all hand made and authentic from the local community.

Tickets for Sunburn are still available and can be purchased here.
