Tootsie Goes EDM: DJ Tatiana’s Gender-Bending Story
There is no denying the fact that EDM has a gender imbalance amongst DJs. A select few female DJs and producers, such as the Nervo Twins, Maya Jane Coles, Nicole Moudaber, and Rebecca and Fiona, have broken through the adversity and succeeded in a male-dominated industry. Madrid-based DJ Tatiana falls into this category of influential female DJs with her energetic style that has torn up dancefloors worldwide at venues like Pacha and Nikki Beach. But, her life story is not a usual one.
Pulling a reversed-Tootsie, Tatiana Alvarez created an alter-ego, DJ Musikillz, and dressed up as a male DJ early on in her journey towards the spotlight. She realized the upper hand male DJs had when pursuing their careers, and decided to let fans judge her music without gender in the equation. Now, DJ Tatiana has become an internationally renowned DJ and is managed by the recently-reunited, powerhouse management team, More/Medavoy. Warner Bros. has officially purchased the life rights to her story and are currently developing the team that will bring it to life. Tatiana will act as the music supervisor for the film that will be executively produced by Phoenix Pictures.
