Deorro throws a free concert for the PandaFunk family
Whether it is his two boys, his PandaFunk family, or his millions of followers, Deorro watches out for his own.
Last May, Deorro shocked the world when he announced that he would be “quitting DJing.” The PandaFunk label head clarified his initial statement with an explanation mentioning that he would not stop producing music, but would be taking a break from touring to focus on his family and helping his PandaFunk brand reach new heights.
Deorro’s family plays an integral role in his life, and his live performance schedule was consuming too much of his time to be the man and artist he wanted to be. Although his reasons for his transition away from the decks had validity, many fans felt abandoned by the PandaFunk leader. Deorro has consistently expressed his gratitude to his extended family – his fans – on social media and this past weekend he gave something back.
Last Friday, Deorro along with the entire PandaFunk roster put on a free show at Plaza Sports Center in Rio Grande Valley, Texas. Deorro personally paid for all of the event’s expenses to show his unrelenting appreciation for not only the 9,600+ fans in attendance, but also everyone else who has supported him on his swift ascent. He described the show on Facebook with this short note to his fans:
“9,600+ in attendance. Nothing but endless amazing vibes down in the RGV. Waves of smiles, tremendous energy and so many memories were created. Thank you for joining us for this amazing celebration, fam. We couldn’t have done this without any of you.
Thank you for every single thing,
From all of us at Panda Funk.”
Despite his future tour schedule being slimmed down to focus on music, Deorro did not want to take away the magic that many fans have experienced at his live shows. He threw the event with his fans and only his fans in mind.
His hiatus from DJing was intended to channel his energy back to his roots and the reasons he started his musical journey. In addition, Deorro has not entirely “quit” as he has an upcoming spot on the epic Coachella 2015 roster so fans can still catch him live — just not quite as often.
