Jackmaster revisits his musical upbringing at Rubadub for ‘Origins’ film series

Legendary producer, DJ and Numbers label boss Jackmaster (aka Jack Revill) is the subject of the latest installment in Resident Advisor and SONOS’s Origins film series. During the course of the 25-minute episode, Revill talks about his own chaotic early life in his hometown of Glasgow, where he first became involved in the music scene after taking a job at Rubadub, the record shop and distribution center that quickly became his “second home.”

“There was a chance that I was going down the wrong way, so they gave me a full time job,” he says in the episode. Barie, one of Rubadub’s founders, became Revill’s mentor and taught him everything he knows about the industry. Revill tells how his time at Rubadub inspired him to launch his own musical career, and how the family he discovered there taught him lessons that would follow him into the creation of his own record label, Numbers.
