One could be forgiven for thinking that Norway was making up for lost time throughout 2014, as its electronic dance talent pool positively flourished across the globe. Trondheim’s Matoma was by no means a name on everyone’s lips, but his presence was certainly felt by those that could be bothered to look past the surface of the blooming tropical house swell. For Canadian electro pop duo Tegan & Sara, the Nordic talent pulls a special twist on the popular hallmarks so valiantly clogging the pages of Hype Machine and the like. With an emphasis on the percussive elements and reverberated triplets on hand, the Norwegian breakout dons a stunning melodic backbone to “I Can’t Take It,” all whilst liberating the original cut with a new sense of energy. There looks to be plenty more momentum building for the buzz genre here in 2015, but Matoma sounds confident enough to make his own legacy of this recent swell with a customized stab at the status quo.
