Nostalgic DJ trading cards uncovered from 1996
A vintage collection of DJ trading cards from 1996 have surfaced today with notable inclusions from Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Paul van Dyk and more. Recovered by Pulse Radio, the baseball-styled profile cards were originally distributed by K7Stud!o as a promotional tool for Mr. C’s X-MIX: The Electronic Stormmix CD.
Taken from nearly 20 years ago, the cards are something of a DJ time capsule. Listing everything from the artists’ ‘average BPM’ to their ‘longest DJ set,’ the cards serve as a flashback to the era when artists like Josh Wink, Stacey Pullen, Laurent Garnier, and Dave Clarke were in their prime.
The collection carries some fascinating tidbits of information. Derrick May, for instance, had already amassed a collection of 18,000 records by 1995. The shortest DJ set Josh Wink ever played was four minutes: “My first record was on and the police came and shut down the event,” he explained.
