Some of the hottest sounds in deep house belong to one of the genre’s most consistent (and often overlooked) producers, KANT. The Dutchman really hit his stride alongside MK for the dancefloor igniting, Busta Rhymes-sampling “Ey Yo,” but his solo efforts reveal a deceptively robust sonic acumen. While others often adopt the “deep house” namesake incorrectly, it’s KANT who represents the burgeoning genre in its purest form. Floor-filling house percussion and a hollowed out sub bass earn “Kiss” top honors as an afterhours gem in the making: a haunting collision of texturized synthesis, wonky sample work, and an infectious swing that’s impossible to escape and impossible to ignore.
