In America, your ninth birthday signifies that you are old enough to attend your first Burning Man, and your fourteenth qualifies you to launch your own record label. Detroit’s Jarett Koral founded Jett Plastic Recordings in 2012 at the young age of fourteen with its first release from local band After Dark Amusement Park. Since then, the label has released music from an additional 12 acts falling under the rock and roll, blues, punk and hardcore categories. Macaulay Culkin’s act The Pizza Underground and Bootsey X have also turned to Jarrett’s imprint as a distributor for their music.

Koral dishes on how Jett Plastic came to be: “In mid-2012, I sort of got the idea. I started talking to Greg Beyer, a local musician who was putting out a full-length record at the time, and he was looking for another label to put out the 7″. I said, ‘Well, I could do it.’ And I did it without even telling anybody.”
