Trouw’s basement could be back in club commission

Last month, Trouw’s closing parties filled party-goers all over the world with bittersweet feelings. In many ways, the announcement that the legendary club would be closing for good signaled the end of a monumental era in club culture and dance music. The first night spot to boast a 24-hour liquor license in Amsterdam, Trouw had broken ground in music and nightlife as well as in politics.

Recently, though, rumors have been circling that give fans reason to hope — rumors that the party might continue in the club’s basement room, also known as ‘De Verdieping.’ Felix Hillen, Managing Director of the Student Hotel (the company that purchased the Trouw building), said that the company definitely has “ambition to turn the basement into a club again.” He said they are currently looking for an associate with experience running a nightclub. The student accomodations company expects building renovations to be completed by next March, so it could be a while before anyone gets a definite answer about the future of the space.
