Aziz Ansari and Andy Samberg to make cameos in upcoming Major Lazer cartoon
Major Lazer is on fire right now. The three-man dance hall outfit, behind their cartoon commando, have an arsenal stocked full of finished material, and a cast of collaborators that runs as deep as Coachella’s lineup. But Major Lazer’s upcoming material spans farther than two full-length albums set to drop this year, it includes a new animated series set to premiere in April on FX. Diplo, Walshy, and Jillionaire are met by plenty of support from the music world on these forthcoming records, but some of their best collaborations yet are actually expected on the cartoon.
The animated series, centered around the group’s half-cyborg futuristic freedom fighter character is boasting cameos from comedy heavyweights Andy Samberg and Aziz Ansari. The SNL and Parks and Recreation stars are among a colorful cast of guest stars on the animated series, joining the likes of Gwen Stefani, Ellie Goulding, Pusha T, DJ Snake and Ariana Grande in Major Lazer’s multimedia takeover campaign of 2015.
With a little help from Ansari and Samberg, anticipation for the animated series might even be as high as the albums.
