Dubai is building an island resort to rival Ibiza and Las Vegas
The United Arab Emirates is planning to give Ibiza a run for its money. Recently announced construction plans for another man-made island off the Arabian Gulf depict an expansive man-made island that construction officials claim will hold up to 20,000 revelers. Located in Ras Al Khaimah, a 40-minute drive from the UAE’s crown jewel, Dubai, the island will feature two mega clubs, four beach clubs, five hotels and 100 restaurants. Unlike Dubai, where you need a license to drink alcohol, the “New Ibiza” will have no such restrictions. Completed in 2013 with 4 million square feet of usable land, the island maintains no residential zoning and will only be open to visitors or residents of the neighboring islands. Dubai’s Ibiza-killing paradise has plans to be finished in 2018.
