Giveaway: Verboten celebrates its first birthday with top notch lineup

Verboten Nightclub in Brooklyn is about to celebrate its first birthday. Now a staple of Brooklyn’s burgeoning underground music scene, Verboten had its humble beginnings as a small, yet forward-thinking party promoter over a decade ago. Since then it has become the benchmark for which all other house music venues are compared. Establishing its permanent home in the heart of Williamsburg, Verboten is now a 10,000 square foot, warehouse-inspired, music mecca. To celebrate its one year anniversary, Verboten has booked an impressive lineup; Damian Lazarus & The Ancient Moons will be performing live on Thursday, March 12th, Resident Carl Craig and Balearic legend Luciano take control of the main room on Friday the 13th, and Maya Jane Coles controls the sound on Saturday night.

To commemorate the occasion, Verboten’s residents and frequent performers shared their thoughts and experiences performing at the club:

“Verboten is a very special place on earth, and since I entered the club for the first time I felt directly at home. The atmosphere is amazing and I love the dance floor. This is exactly the place you wanna dance your ass off. The concept was built from someone who knows the deal.” — Anja Schneider

“Verboten was created with quality in mind. Everything about that room screams that: the sound, the design, the layout. The team behind it knew exactly what to do with that space and it shows through and through.” — Audiofly

“It’s a special relationship between myself and Verboten. Holding a residency in Brooklyn is as special as having one in Berlin or Tokyo.” — Carl Craig (Verboten resident)

“Whenever I play the club and I look out on the floor I see familiar faces, even if I’ve never met them, and having that kind of community with long-term fans is so important to me. That’s not something any club that brings great artists can do, it only happens in special environments, clubs where the planets align to make that perfect vibe. That vibe is Verboten.” — Davide Squillace (Verboten resident)

“I love Verboten, such a cool bunch of people. I’ve been playing for them for a long time. I remember my first show for them on a rooftop playing piano love, then an amazing show with tINI at another venue, to my most recent gig that was my residency launch at their new home playing with Julian Perez and Livio & Roby….so many amazing memories.” — Guti (Verboten resident)

“I know a lot of talented DJ/artists like to play there for the same reason I do. It has an intimate and personal feel to the club. It’s not to big or too small and it feels just right. I’m right there with the crowd. I also like the personal touch Jen [Schiffer] and her amazing crew give the artists. They really make you feel like you are a part of the family.” — Josh Wink

“There are very few clubs across the world that you get to play that has a different atmosphere almost every time you play, whilst still at the same maintaining that unmistakable ‘Verboten’ vibe. Coupled with the impeccable sound & that amazing layout you can’t really ask for more!” — jozif

“Verboten’s team obviously thought long and hard about what’s been missing in a club of this size in New York in recent years and created a gem in the process. Born from a love of sharing music, this club space exceeds expectations and helps place New York exactly where it should be. As a world class destination for underground music.” — Lee Burridge

“[My residency is] a special thing, especially in NYC. I’ve always played everywhere in the city, and never locked myself down to one venue. After touring Verboten before it opened though, I knew immediately it was the only place to play regularly in New York. They have given me carte blanche on bookings, so I am able to book my friends and and peers that I respect and want to be a part of the Subversions legacy.” — Matthew Dear (Verboten resident)

“The new club is such a great space, acoustics and vibe. I held my first New York Maya Jane Coles & Friends party there with Kim Ann Foxman and Curses; it was so much fun that I’m definitely looking forward to the next one now especially as I’ll be living in the neighbourhood for a bit!” — Maya Jane Coles (Verboten resident)

“Verboten has the intimate feel of a small club combined with the top-notch sound, lighting and visuals you would expect from a mega-club. They’ve welcomed me with open arms since I moved to Brooklyn and I try to repay the favor each time I get the opportunity to play there!” — Moon Boots
