Madeon takes to Reddit for new AMA
From Launchpad wielding internet phenomenon to a member of electronic music’s A-list of stars, Madeon‘s ascension has been nothing short of historic. Now with a debut album less than a week away and a brand new live show ready to unveil, the young French star is rapidly approaching a career defining span of events. In a recent AMA on Reddit, Madeon divulged a plethora of information regarding future collaborations, his new live show, and the status of a follow-up to the world famous “Pop Culture” mashup.
As the AMA got underway, Hugo Pierre Leclercq was quickly asked about what could become of a successor to the “Pop Culture” mashup. “Actually one of the first things I decided after Pop Culture took off was to NOT do Pop Culture 2,” he said.
“I was really worried about the video defining my career and being stuck in some sort of YouTube gimmick, so I decided to move on. I still love it and play it live, and I’m amazed by how much it connected with people though, but I really wanted to focus on my own original music. It’s been a few years now though, so maybe someday.”
Jumping from the start of his career to the present, the next chapter is close to being revealed, both in the form of an album and a new live show. The latter will be a complete reinvention of what was presented to the world last year. Much to the delight of fans, the French phenom revealed details regarding the live show:
“I’m really looking forward to that, it’s what I’ve been working on lately. It’s all Madeon music, with brand new live versions of many songs (old and new). I tried to completely remove my mind from the ‘live’ perspective when making the album, so when I started working on the show I wanted to bring back some of that visceral, harder, collective energy that wasn’t explored a lot on the album, while still staying true to it. I’m working on a lot of ways to interact with the music in ways that I find meaningful (changing the chord progression of a song on the fly for example), improvisation is my favorite part of shows.”
Furthermore, a number of potential collaborators were mentioned from fans during the AMA. In regards to the potential of a Lady Gaga reunion, he says, “I would love to,” while also briefly commenting that he’s “been talking more often recently” to often-rumored collaborative partner Porter Robinson. Adding fuel to the fire when a fan started posing the possibility of a Madeon/Phantogram track, he said, “That song may already exist.”
