DA Premiere: Ex Cops – Black Soap (Eli Escobar Remix)
You may know Ex Cops as the band that put McDonald’s on blast for asking artists to play their SXSW showcase for free, but there’s far more to them than that. Their unique brand of indie combines equal parts rock and pop, and it’s impressed industry heavyweights and adoring fans alike; in fact, The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan executive produced the Brooklyn band’s 2014 album, Daggers.
The deluxe edition of the album is slated for a May 19 release, and it will feature a remix of “Black Soap” by fellow New Yorker Eli Escobar. He strips the track down, totally rebuilding the instrumental supporting Amalie Bruun’s vocals. Like most of Eli’s tracks, the song has a classic feel that’s simultaneously current and timeless. Everything he touches is absolutely breathtaking, and his “Black Soap” remix is no different: just a brilliant musician turning a stellar track into something even more spectacular.
Daggers is out now via Downtown Records.
