It’s been just over 20 years since Josh Wink released the game-changing “Higher State of Consciousness” on the seminal house label Strictly Rhythm. Yesterday, Wink added another line to his resume of transcendental dance floor bombs with his latest single “Denial”. Released on his own Philly-based Ovum Recordings, “Denial” finds Wink in a hypnotic mood, entrancing dance floors with an eyes-closed techno builder built around a warped vocal snippet “live in the future” repeating throughout.
“The message is to live in the present, remember the past and trust the future,” Wink says. We somehow do trust the future when it’s Wink talking to us, much like how his dance floor crushing track from last year, “Talking to You” did.
“Denial” is techno existentialism at its finest, a finely touched slab of meditative music that urges you to lose yourself, forget your concerns and live in the moment. Twenty years deep in the game, Wink continually proves himself as a producer capable of speaking beyond the music and taking his audiences to destinations unknown.
