Mike Stroud and Evan Mast return as their experimental electronic rock tag team, Ratatat, for the pair’s first release since 2010’s LP4. Right in line with their previous efforts, ‘Cream on Chrome’ hums with a lo-fi buzz and space-rock psychedelia, all thanks to Mast’s walking bass line and Stroud’s talkative guitar licks. Premiered at Coachella this past weekend, the first preview off the Brookylyn duo’s fifth album rewards long time fans with a quintessential Ratatat soundscape. At times jarring, other times strangely soothing, ‘Cream on Chrome’ is the type of electro-hypnosis inducing music that Stroud and Mast built their career on.
