Watch This: Natalie Imbruglia covers Daft Punk and Julian Casablancas’s ‘Instant Crush’

Natalie Imbruglia’s biggest hit was her chart-topping cover of Ednaswap’s “Torn,” so it’s both fitting and exciting that she’s set to release an album full of covers this July. The record will be called Male because each of the tracks on the release is a cover of a song originally recorded by one or more male artists.

The first single from Male –– and her first single since 2009 — is a cover of Daft Punk and Julian Casablancas‘s “Instant Crush.” Everything about the original felt emotional yet fittingly robotic. Powerful strings, heartfelt keys, and Imbruglia’s brilliant voice power the cover, giving the song the human feel it was so clearly missing. While SoundCloud has a seemingly infinite number of remixes and covers of various Random Access Memories songs, Natalie Imbruglia’s take on “Instant Crush” stands head and shoulders above the vast majority of the pack. Would you expect anything less from the star responsible for one of the most beloved covers of our generation?

Watch the video below, and head over to Mashable to check out their wonderful interview with Imbruglia.
