James Murphy’s wine bar is on its way to Williamsburg
Former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has much more than just a good pair of ears for quality music. He also has an impeccable eye for visuals and an earnest palate – one that drove him toward opening his own Willamsburg wine bar. Murphy joked, “I need something with really low margins, high risk, brutal hours and which I have no experience at.”
The Four Horsemen, due to open its doors in early June at 295 Grand Street, will hold around 40 seats and offer guests an abundance of options. Eventually, Murphy’s side project aims to present 350 different wines, ranging from traditional to the more “radical” breeds.
But of course, a wine bar would be lacking without food to pair. Both snacks and larger dishes will be available for patrons, though James and his team “keep calling it a wine bar because we want to underpromise and overdeliver.” He continues, “It has to be economically sustainable. It’s not a vanity project.”
