Bassnectar collabs with Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello for electronic music project

One of electronic mega-producer Bassnectar’s childhood dreams just came true. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the heavy metal-inspired musician and DJ, real name Lorin Ashton, confirmed his upcoming collaboration with former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello on a still unnamed special project. Lorin, who’s been a longtime fan of Morello’s, geeks out in the article excitedly stating, “[Morello]’s working on this really cool project where he’s working with multiple electronic music producers to create electronic songs that he can recreate live on this super, perverted, unexplainable, bastardized guitar mutant instrument thing.”

Morello’s not-so-secret electronic project generated buzz after photos and tweets of the 51-year-old iconic guitarist hinted at more collabs with Knife Party, Skrillex and Jahlil Beats. Bassnectar jokes, “I proposed to him that we basically pretend that we are a band and that we write a song together.”

So when can we expect to hear this release? After they find the right vocalist for the already completed instrumental. Some of the frontrunners include Outkast’s Big Boi, Deftones’ Chino Moreno and Pussy Riot.

Bassnectar’s new album Into the Sun will be released June 30th.
