Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are back in the studio together
Well before dance music washed up on America’s shores and took over, hip-hop undoubtedly ruled the roost. In the early 1990’s, hip-hop was in its golden era. Amidst heated tension between East and West coast powerhouse rap crews, some of today’s most canonized lyrics were spit for the first time; lines, verses, and songs that continue to live in infamy today. The wiry, harsh, urban swagger that became the foundation of west coast rap provided some of the most iconic hip-hop records to date, and now two key purveyors in that unmistakable sound are back in the studio together.
The photo of Snoop and Dre turned up on Instagram recently, complete with tantalizing caption in tow. “Guess who bAcc” reads the tagline beneath the shot of Tha DoggFather and The Doctor. It has been over 20 years since Doggystyle and even longer since NWA reigned supreme, but anytime these two wind up in a studio together, it is news worth celebrating.
Snoop and Dre, as you may remember, are the names behind “Still D.R.E.” and “Nothing But a G Thang,” some of the biggest rap cuts of all time. It wasn’t too long ago that the two hip-hop heavyweights resurrected Tupac for a special Coachella performance unlike anything the world had ever seen. The music industry may have evolved one hundred times over since “The Next Episode,” but not that much has changed. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have a history of making certified hits together, and this time is likely no different. If the two are in the studio together, it means something big is coming. Brace yourselves.
