Travel agencies are trying to put out the Burning Man

According to Magnetic Magazine, a new agency by the name of Burner Air is taking advantage of Burning Man’s new-found popularity with the “top tier” of society (in other words, the 1%) by offering exclusive travel packages to those willing to shell out $600-$27,000 just for the trip there and back.

Now don’t get us wrong – we understand where this is coming from. These people have worked hard for their money, and want to give themselves the best. Naturally as a capitalist society, it only makes sense that companies like Burner Air have risen up to make a profit off of this money-filled niche.

With that being said, Burning Man has been, and always will be, about the community. Its emphasis is human equality, and Black Rock City is created every year to prove we can all come together, find ourselves and connect with one another, and live for one week free of the force that rules world: money. As the amount of “VIP” guests and their Burner Air travel packages increase, the sense of “community, trade, and friendship” is diluted for a vision of glamor and status — and that’s just against the Burner ethos. It’s as if these turnkey camps and travel agents are saying “We’ve got money, we’re your superiors” to all the authentic Burners who attend the festival to escape the shallow, consumer hell that is the real world.
