Tourist opens the aptly titled “Waves” with what sounds like water lapping up against the shore. He methodically adds layers to the track, each one as comforting and calming as the piece before it. The song unfolds slowly but beautifully with every part, from the waves to the percussion to the sleepy vocals, nestling perfectly into the surrounding noises. And though he took a gradual, calculated path to build the song up, Tourist breaks “Waves” down rather abruptly; it all comes crashing down like a breaking wave, and all that’s left is the sound of lapping water.
