DA Premiere: Harry Romero drops his latest heat on Ovum Recordings
House legend Harry Romero has returned to Josh Wink’s Philadelphia-based Ovum Recordings for his latest release, a cracking two-track EP entitled Aquarium. The EP picks up right where Romero last left off on Ovum, continuing the massive success of his 2014 Get Deep release that saw the New Jersey producer return to his groove-heavy house roots.
The EP’s title-track “Aquarium” is a full-on festival and Ibiza anthem in the making, fusing Romero’s Latin influences with Balearic flair to yield some standout moments. After priming listeners with an appetizing buildup full of cascading synths and snapping percussion, a truly gorgeous breakdown ensues and an echoing saxophone takes the spotlight, teasing listeners as subtle atmospherics build and hi-hats begin to fire up again. Once the track dives back in, Romero goes full throttle and shows the slightest of restraint while leading listeners through a storming section of his signature swinging percussion and tech-y synth work. The EP closes out with “What What” a dark-room affair that evokes some of Romero’s classic moments under his Sondos moniker.
