Jack Ü’s ‘Where Are Ü Now’ just became the biggest dance track of 2015
Love it or hate it, Jack Ü’s single with Justin Bieber, “Where Are Ü Now” is the biggest dance track of 2015. The unlikely collaboration has been a huge step forward in the careers of all the artists involved. The single marks Skrillex and Diplo’s first foray into Billboard‘s Top 10, and has big implications for Bieber’s career. Billboard noted that “[the success of “Where Are Ü Now”] is a good (re)start for Bieber. After everything he’s gone through, Bieber scoring another Top 10 single was far from a foregone conclusion; now, step one in his musical comeback has been accomplished.” Billboard lists Skrillex and Diplo as the single’s primary artists, with Bieber receiving a featured credit.
Just weeks after becoming a gold record, the Recording Industry Association of America (R.I.A.A.) has certified “Where Are Ü Now” as platinum. The R.I.A.A. classifies a digital single as platinum after it has moved one million units — one unit moved equates to one paid download, or 100 streams. Supplementary to its Platinum status in the United States, the song now currently sits at 150 million streams on Spotify internationally. With the current hype surrounding the single’s acclaimed music video, streams show no sign of slowing down, and an ascent to double-platinum is not out of the question.
