St. Vincent’s first mixtape was dedicated to an unlikely fan

Annie Clark, better known as singer-songwriter St. Vincent, premiered her Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music last night with a unique and heart-warming intention. Clark’s weekly show, St. Vincent’s Mixtape Delivery Service, chooses a listener each week who calls in with a compelling story, who then receives a playlist curated just for them.

The first lucky listener was 11-year old Piper, who wrote a letter to St. Vincent describing her favorite music (besides Clark’s)- Purity Ring, Chvrches, and “music she can dance to.” Clark compiled a playlist of music she thinks Piper “will love but probably has missed, because she’s eleven.” After letting us listen in on her conversation with Piper, Clark gives listeners a soundtrack for their own dance party, no matter what their age. With a playlist that includes Depeche Mode, Stereolab, Deee-Lite, Bjork, David Bowie, Talking Heads, and Pet Shop Boys, Clark sets the bar high for a show that is sure to be met with anticipation each week.
