Dillon Francis returns to Diplo and Friends, brings DJ Hanzel along for the ride
Diplo may have gotten more than he bargained for this week on his Saturday night Diplo and Friends spot. Inviting Dillon Francis for this week’s edition of the show, fans get a double dose of Dillon hot off the heels of his moombahton revival EP This Mixtape is Fire, as the superstar producer brings along deep-house purist DJ Hanzel as an unexpected plus one. The first hour catches Dillon rattling off heaters from his new EP, a grip of his biggest hits, and of course, “a bunch of exclusive content from your mom.” The second hour of the show finds his German alter ego Hanzel taking things to the deeper end of the house spectrum for a full two hour showcase of Dillon’s imaginative palette.
Dillon opens with his Skrillex co-signed “Bun Up the Dance” and cruises through an hour of jams from GTA and Wiwek, Zomboy, Kanye West, Major Lazer and Porter Robinson. Mixing in his collaboration with Calvin Harris and an official remix for Madeon, DF delivers a range of his best before allowing Hanzel to take the decks. The second hour includes a handful of sophisticated house cuts, as “von deeper” proponent DJ Hanzel drops off acquired tastes by Drezo, Shiba San, Wuki, and Breakbot.
It has been three years since the Mad Decent star did his last Diplo and Friends feature, and with his new EP having instantly claimed the top spot on iTunes’ dance chart, a flawless two hour mix is the perfect way to solidify Dillon Francis’ spot at the top of the game.
