Max Graham – Airtight (Tim Penner Remix)
Exactly fifteen years after the release of the original, Max Graham has picked two superb remixes of “Airtight” to be released on his Cycle label. Re-interpreting the 2000 hit first, John O’Callaghan under his Henrik Zuberstein alias provides a lush soundscape with a groove similar to that of Guy J. It’s Tim Penner’s re-work, however, that stands out the most distinctly. The fellow Canadian went a darker route for his version, transporting the listener to an underground afterhours club. Staying true to the original “Airtight” at first, he assaults the eardrums just over halfway through with chunky synthesizers and a kick that triggers a carnal desire to move to it. Playing around with different melodies and textures is clearly his strong suit, and with the continued release of music this caliber, Penner is solidifying his status as one of progressive’s most prominent producers.
