Avicii cancels all upcoming performances for the second year in a row

The month of September might just be cursed for Avicii. For the second year in a row, the Swedish producer has unveiled a major announcement to cancel all scheduled performances for the rest of the year. In 2014, he cited a need to focus on his health after a gall bladder incident caused him to miss most of his highly anticipated Miami Music Week appearances.

This year, the reason is not reportedly health-related. Billboard reports that his team explained that this year has already been too high-pressure for the artist: delivering his new album Stories as well as adopting a new directorial role for music videos for “For a Better Day” and “Pure Grinding” have overloaded his summer, pushing him to take a hiatus for the rest of 2015.

Multiple Vegas appearances at XS and Encore Beach Club will be “moved to next year,” as well as major performances at Shanghai’s STORM Festival and two shows in Japan. Though at the moment, the appearances are cancelled, his team has suggested that the shows will only be postponed and they will return next year with a “larger tour initiative.”

Though physical health may not be the issue at hand, it seems as though Avicii is falling off the grid in order to refocus on a more mental aspect of wellbeing. “In moving my tour promotional responsibilities to next year, I have a great opportunity to focus on myself and spend time trying to grow up in a way I never got the chance to – normal, or as normal as it could get,” he told Billboard.
