Flying Lotus forges his own supergroup, premieres new music via Adult Swim

Flying Lotus has one of electronic music’s strangest, most sophisticated palates out there. As a radio host, TV show resident DJ, Low End Theory proponent, and part-time rapper by the Captain Murphy guise, Flying Lotus keeps himself busy, all while keeping close to some of the most eclectic electronic music being made at the moment.

Now the You’re Dead mastermind is rounding together some friends to form the newest supergroup on the block, bringing along multi-instrumentalist Thundercat, and veteran hip-hop experimentalists, Shabazz Palaces, to form the aptly named partnership, WOKE.

WOKE’s first tune also includes a big time collaboration with Parliament-Funkadelic’s George Clinton on “The Lavishments of Light Looking.” The tune plays upon echoing rhyme quips, vocoded accents, and the breezy jazz melodies that FlyLo and Thundercat do better than the rest. Fizzy basslines and crisp claps carry the laid back hip-hop shoulder-shaker as WOKE come through with a first single via Adult Swim that’s smooth as velvet.

Following up a Skrillex and Jauz release for the squad to get rowdy to, WOKE’s contribution to Adult Swim Singles is groovy hip-hop of the more relaxing variety.
