Gia – Only A Girl (ƱZ Remix)
ƱZ has bookended his prolific, post-Trap Shit summer with a new remix of young R&B up-and-comer Gia’s recent single “Only A Girl.” ƱZ’s latest endeavor might well be his most melodic yet. As he incorporates much of the original’s sultry vocals into his revision, ƱZ provides soft, subtle pads in a pleasingly complementary fashion, revealing a previously unseen forté in his composition. According to Bullett, which premiered the remix, Gia views the remix so compatible with her original release that she includes it in her live performances.
The synthesis of the drop itself doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s relatively simplistic vocal chops yield their significance to his deep, lush sub rhythms. The drop itself yields, in a way, to the tranquil melodies of the track’s vocal body. ƱZ’s retirement from Trap Shit implicitly promised new directions, and perhaps this remix indicates a future in which the masked maestro will show his softer side.
