Canadian filmmaker launches a Kickstarter campaign for new electronic music documentary

With EDM blowing up as an international, countercultural phenomenon, filmmakers are gravitating toward the scene in an effort to discover what exactly brings droves of people together in such a Summer of Love-esque manner. Though the most publicized growth of EDM has been recorded in the United States, its fellow North American neighbor, Canada, is also experiencing quite a boom – leading to an upsurge in documentation surrounding the genre.

Producer Kevan McGovern, of Vancouver, recently laid the groundwork for one of Canada’s first in-depth looks at the growth and spread of electronic music throughout the country. Titled I/O: An Electronic Music Documentary, McGovern has begun fundraising for the film by creating a Kickstarter campaign that will conclude on November 27th. As an incentive to make a $10 contribution, Kevan is offering his mini documentary about Shambhala festival – which will no longer be available for purchase following the campaign.
