DA Premiere: Carl Craig’s secret remix of Boris Blank’s ‘Electrified’
The always amazing Detroit legend Carl Craig has been stunning clubs around the world for decades with his sizzling blend of futuristic techno. This past summer was busy as usual for Craig, touring the world’s best clubs and festivals, and of course, maintaining a consistent schedule at the world mecca for partying, Ibiza.
Rumors from the White Isle swirled about that Craig was destroying dancefloors with an unreleased track that he’d been keeping tight to the vest, and here we have it for premiere. Craig has remixed “Electrified” from Swiss producer Boris Blank, best known for his work with seminal electronic group Yello (remember the Ferris Bueller theme song?), into a thumping and groove-laden techno monster.
The track starts off with a punchy kick-drum build before Craig’s signature icy synth-work takes over and a bright vocoded voice enters, “electrifying” the track for a funky respite before rumbling onward for an exhilarating seven-minute ride. The re-work is Craig at his best: breathing life into the intersection of dark minimal synths and soulful human grooves for a sound and style that truly no one else can pull off. This one is white label only, so enjoy the stream and catch the Detroit don in the flesh to hear it rip over a massive system.
