DA Premiere: Watch Emancipator’s new music video for ‘Seven Seas’
Producers who craft classic rhythms with a trip-hop twist remain one of dance music’s best kept secrets, tucked away on smaller stages at major festivals. Emancipator, a prime example of this brand, intends to stay afloat in an otherwise saturated scene, with a career successfully spanning almost a decade.
The Portland-based producer continues to prove that modern ambient melodies are alive and well, with last month’s release of “Seven Seas” via his new label, Loci Records. The album, his first after a three-year hiatus, serves as a fruitful comeback that highlights the producer’s captivation for enchanting melodies.
The eponymous track with singer Madelyn Grant suits the album’s aesthetic, weaving in theatrical instrumentals with vigorous vocals. “Seven Seas'” music video, directed by Erin Galey, showcases an inspiring, emotional journey of internal struggles and self-discovery. “The journey is both a battleground and a love affair,” says Galey. “A place for viewers to get lost in, and I hope, to find something of their own.”
