Governors Ball pens petition to cease plans for AEG’s ‘NYC Coachella’
As previously announced, AEG Live, the production team behind Coachella and Firefly, have their sights set on Queens, NY for a possible music festival in Flushing Meadows Corona Park this upcoming June.
Because the timing of this proposed festival coincides with the annual Governors Ball, the team behind the 3-day festival on Randall’s Island believe that the new fest on the block will cause nothing but trouble.
A new petition on change.org cites why the AEG-produced event induces strife, hinting at an inevitable conflict with exclusive artist bookings: “The timing of this proposed event is an aggressive, greedy attempt by AEG to push a small independent company of born and bred New Yorkers out of business and out of the market.”
As signed by Team Gov Ball, the petition seeks 7,500 signees before pushing forward to NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio. With origins dating back to 2011, Governors Ball contend that their purpose is rooted in the idea of “a major music festival that New Yorkers could call their own to our hometown.”
The “Support Gov Ball NYC” petition, which was posted this morning, currently has more than 65% of the needed endorsements.
