Sony & WMG pull Martin Garrix’s YouTube videos on ‘copyright grounds’
Back in August, EDM prodigy Martin Garrix revealed an as-of-yet-titled progressive house track to a massive crowd at Sziget Festival in Budapest, but now the teen producer’s recorded live set has been pulled from his YouTube channel by Sony and Warner Music Group. His Ultra Music Festival Miami 2015 live set has also been removed, with the two major players arguing that the videos are in violation of copyright laws.
Garrix’s rabid fan base began taking notice and the questions came flooding in for the 19-year-old who responded to fans with: “…some stupid claims by Sony & Warner, guess everything is about money nowadays.”
Labels and Garrix don’t seem to get along too well, particularly after he announced back in August that he was departing longtime label Spinnin’ Records and management company MusicAllStars. He stated, “From the beginning of this year I tried to get back the ownership rights of my music from Spinnin’ Records and to keep my confidence in MAS. I am extremely disappointed that the discussions have not led to a change in the agreements or return of the ownership rights, and that is why I nullified them.”
