YouTube introduces new paid service, YouTube Red
Rumors surrounding the possible launch of YouTube’s paid subscription-based service began circulating in early September. Word on the street was that the video streaming site would unveil a music and music videos service, titled Music Key, as well as a second unnamed service that would allow users to save videos offline and watch videos ad-free.
That second service, now known as YouTube Red, offers ad-free listening, access to Google Play Music, and permits users to listen to videos on their phones even if the app is not open. Come January, YouTube Red subscribers will also have access to content such as exclusive series and full length films — many of which are produced by YouTube personalities themselves, such as the Fine Brothers.
